Embedding a Video By Roger Published: March 25, 2007 PrintEmail
So, I have done absolutely SQUAT with site for more than a year. I decided that it's time to learn something new. Embedding videos looks like fun!
How tough could it possibly be, right? Well, if you want to use Flash/Shockwave, then it's tough. See, to me, I don't give a hoot what media player is used, and neither should the person watching the video. So, why not use Windows Media Player? Well, because where does that leave leave Linux/Mac users? "Screw 'em! Let THEM code an embedded flash player!", I always say!
And... hey, look - if someone else wants to host a video for me... say "YouTube" or "Break"... all the power to 'em. "Use THEIR resources and bandwidth, not OURS!", I always say.
So, how about something controversial? Say, a clip from a live CSPAN broadcast where a man advocates racial genocide at a forum at Howard University on October 14, 2005? Remember when this was all over the news?
Obviously, there is nothing that this clown is saying that I advocate. But I do find it amazing that he was given a national forum to speak with such hate.
Site Security By Roger Published: February 2, 2006 PrintEmail
OK... so you've probably tried to check out the wedding photos and got a nasty authentication challenge that looks like this:
"What's this all about?!!", you may have cried out into the night.
Well, after some thought, I decided that I really only want friends and family looking at personal stuff, such as family photos, on the web site. The rest of the site will remain open to the world.
"So, how do I log in?!!", you ask. Well, if you are indeed a friend of the family, or a family member, all you need to do is answer any ONE of the following questions... and the answer will be BOTH the User Name and Password (that means put the answer in BOTH fields).
(Remember, you only need to know the answer to ONE of these questions, and you type the answer in BOTH the User Name and Password fields when you see this box pop up):
(1) What is Dil's maiden name?(2) What does it say on Dil's license plate?(3) What is Roger's Mother's maiden name?(4) What's the name of the town where Roger proposed to Dil? (5) What is the name of Roger's hockey team?(6) What is the name of Roger's favourite SSL terminator/network load balancer?(7) What is the name of the town where Roger's Father lives?
(If you get stuck, just drop us an email.... we'll get it sorted out for you!)
